60-minute Sun Salutations Challenge

In a nutshell

How many will you perform at the Yogathon on November 15? Yoga -- union of mind, body, and spirit -- is an inward journey. The Sun Salutation Challenge is much the same. The idea is that you set your own goal based on your inspiration. No prior experience is needed and pretty much anyone can do it. Plus, you’ll have tons of help and support. Do this for yourself and help the cause of Stress-Free Violence-Free Schools at the same time.

Sun salutations

The Sun Salutation is a flowing sequence of 12 postures that alternately stretch the spine forwards and backwards with coordinated breathing to provide a complete low-impact workout for the body and mind. Each position counteracts the one before, stretching the body in a different way and alternately expanding and contracting the chest to regulate the breathing. The Sun Salutations can be a complete practice in itself or a preparation for a deeper yoga routine.

How it works

1. Get Started in Minutes

  • Sign up for Yogathon 2009. By yourself, start a team, or join a team. Do it your way. Get an early start to a healthier you!
  • Set your sun salutations goal for the May 30th Yogathon. Make it a stretch. Have fun with it. When you sign up you’ll even get your own web page. Give it your personality.
  • Use our comprehensive set of online tools. Announce your goal to your friends and get them to support you in your drive. You can always change your target at any time.

2. The Journey is the Reward

  • Keep up your practice at home. Observe the benefits unfold in your life. More flexibility. Greater energy. Calmer mind.
  • Keep your supporters informed about your progress from your web page. Raise funds for YES! for High Schools Program.

3. Celebrate at the Yogathon

  • Make it count at the Yogathon. The number of sun salutations you do in 60 minutes will be tallied with that of thousands of other Yogathoners for the Grand Yogathon Sun Salutation Total.
