The 10,000-foot view
IAHV Yogathon 2009 is a community yoga event open to people of all age groups and
cultures. It seeks to promote yoga as a healthy lifestyle choice and bring together
New Jersey's health-conscious, socially- and environmentally-responsible community, while also raising
funds that will make a difference to the lives of youth. The funds raised through
pledges by Yogathoners (yes, it's a word) will go directly towards the innovative
YES! in High Schools program.
Yoga and service -- powering the Yogathon!
Yoga is a wonderful way of life -- it's a total approach to health both physically
and mentally. Discard the stereotypes of "pretzel poses". Yoga is cool and it's
fun. Since we are so passionate about yoga and it's benefits – we thought
what better way to communicate that than to get everyone together for a large Yogathon?
And to that we added the idea of helping a good cause in the spirit of service.

60-minute sun salutations challenge
Welcome, New Jersey yoga lovers!
We recognize and honor your passion for yoga. And we share a common goal of
increasing awareness of the benefits that yoga brings to one's life. Let's join hands towards realizing a healthier, happier, and more peaceful community. We look forward
to your active involvement.
Participate as a team and showcase your yoga group at Yogathon 2009. Your support will go a long way
towards creating a stress-free violence-free school environment for our youth.

C'mon, New Jersey! This is a challenge of a different kind.
The only challenge is within. You set your own goal of how many sun salutations
you will do in 60 minutes at the Yogathon on May 30. Then practice towards your
goal. Make it count at the Yogathon. The total number of sun salutations performed
that day will be tallied into a grand total. You'll have plenty
of help. We are conducting FREE Yoga for Fitness
workshops at various convenient locations around the New Jersey where you will
learn and practice with others under the guidance of an experienced yoga instructor.
Join hands and stretch for a great cause
As a Yogathoner, you're doing good for your own health and helping others.
You train for the Yogathon at your own pace and gain physical fitness, mental clarity,
and great friends along the way! You can
participate by yourself or take the fun-meter up a notch and do it in a group
with friends -- start a team, or
join an existing team.
Prior to the event, Yogathoners collect pledges to raise funds for the Stress-Free
Violence-Free Schools Initiative, featuring the innovative YES! program taught through
the International Association for Human Values. We are clearly at a time when the
mental and emotional health of our young people is at an all time low, as evidenced
by the numerous street and school shootings, depressed and suicidal students, students
with eating disorders, young people turning to drugs, alcohol, and incidents of
gang violence that we see around us everyday.

Participating Teams
The YES! in High Schools program provides teens with
practical and effective tools to reduce stress, increase mental clarity, improve
study skills and success in academics, manage emotions, develop leadership skills
and take greater responsibility for their own communities. By raising funds for
the Yogathon, we are able to make the YES! program accessible to more and more schools
in the community.
